Governed GitLab Agent Chain
Project: Governed GitLab Agent Chain
Situation
A software delivery agent needed to work inside existing planning, repository, review, and permission controls. The challenge was preserving context from a Jira requirement through technical planning and implementation without treating AI output as authoritative.
Task
Connect Git-Agent, Jira, and GitLab through an explicit handover that turns an approved requirement into reviewable development work.
Action
- Defined the Jira readiness state that starts technical processing
- Established a handover contract covering story context, acceptance criteria, links, status, and merge-request references
- Added an intake stage to gather repository and documentation context
- Added a specification stage covering affected components, interfaces, data-model implications, risks, and tests
- Added an implementation stage that starts development, runs the pipeline, and opens a merge request
- Preserved human approval between specification and implementation
- Applied scoped credentials, protected branches, review controls, and auditability requirements
Result
Created a traceable agent chain that moves from an approved Jira story to a reviewable GitLab change while keeping engineering decisions and release controls visible.
Technologies
Git-Agent, Jira, GitLab, GitLab CI/CD, webhooks, repository automation, merge requests, scoped access controls
